Discover the Benefits of Both Bee Pollen and Royal Jelly !
I had a couple of website visitors of mine, asking me this interesting question:
Which is better, Bee Pollen or Royal Jelly?
Well, the answer is simple, why not try both?!
Both bee by-products are healthy for you , but in different ways. I currently only take bee pollen, because it’s what I currently need, and fits into my lifestyle.
Depending on your health goals, or lifestyle, trying both products may be a great fit.
What is Bee Pollen?
Bee pollen (also known as bee bread) is the nutritional food that bee’s collect from plants that they gather to bring back to their hive (apiary). The pollen that worker bees collect is also infused with honey and nectar into small granules.
The nutritional value of the bee pollen depends greatly on the environment and types of plants the bees have gathered from. In high pollution areas, bee pollen may contain harmful contaminants, while in pollution free areas, bee pollen is highly rich in nutrients.
The high nutrient rich content of bee pollen has made it a highly regarded nutritional supplement. Also, bee pollen and bee by-products have been used since ancient civilizations of Egypt, China and Europe.
What is Royal Jelly?
While bee pollen is natural nutrients collected from plants, Royal Jelly is secreted from worker honey bees, and is used for the nutrition of young bees, and most importantly adult queen bees.
Queen bees are only fed royal jelly and live a very long life of about 5 to 6 years, because they are the ones laying all the worker eggs. On the other hand, worker bees lifespan are only 30 to 40 days long.
When the queen bee in a hive dies, or is getting weak and old, the worker bees start to feed large amounts of royal jelly to young larvae, which then causes the larvae to become the queen bee and develop ovaries needed to lay eggs. Royal Jelly is collected directly from the cells of the larvae queen bees, and is immediately frozen to preserve it’s content.
Royal Jelly is made up of 67 % water, 12.5 % crude protein, amino acids, and 11 % simple sugars.
What Are the Benefits of Bee Pollen ?
The numerous benefits of bee pollen will probably fill up a whole book, I’ll just talk about the most significant ones as it relates to bee pollen being a natural supplement.
Bee Pollen Composition is Highly Nutritious
Almost every macro and micro nutrient known to be needed by humans has been found in bee pollen. The composition of bee pollen roughly contains 60% carbohydrates, 20% protein, 7% fat, 7% water, and 6% minerals.
Obviously, these percentages can change as bee pollen is a natural product that depends on the bees gathering pollen from plants.
Protein to Help Rebuild Muscle
Bee pollen contains essential proteins and amino acids that are needed in the human body. There was a study done where bee pollen was collected by bees versus pollen collected manually by humans. The result was the pollen collected by bees contained about 17% – 22% protein, while the pollen collected by humans had a measly 11% protein.
This just shows that bees are very efficient in collecting pollen for their hives. And that they only collect the best pollen with essential nutrients, because it’s essential for their survival.
By taking bee pollen you can ensure that your body gets the protein it needs to fully recover from exercise.
Increased Metabolism
Bee pollen also contains numerous amounts of healthy fatty acids such as arachidonic, linoleic and linolenic acid. These fats have shown to increase a person’s metabolism.
What Are the Benefits of Royal Jelly?
Consuming royal jelly can be very beneficial in preventing diseases such as Alzheimers, and Parkinsons. Royal jelly contains acetylcholine, an important compound needed by the body to transmit nerve messages from cell to cell. If a person has very low levels of acetylcholine, they can be prone to diseases that effect the brain.
Another important point, is that royal jelly has been known to prolong life. The idea is that it has these chemicals that help in retaining one’s youthfulness, similar to how a queen bee is only fed royal jelly, and has a life span of 5 to 6 hears compared to her worker bees of only 30 to 40 days.
So Which One is the Best?
As you can probably tell, both are very beneficial to you.
Both have benefits that can change your life for the better.
Either by making you more youthful, or helping you recover from exercise, bee pollen and royal jelly are great natural supplements.
The best bee pollen supplement is from New Zealand, because of the untouched natural environment, which ensures you only get the most purest of bee pollen.
